Gosha Karpowicz’s paintings are invitations to pause and form new encounters. In a world where stillness is rare, her work relies on moments of quietude. Karpowicz paints in subtle layers, creating color planes, waiting for them to dry before the next veil is applied. Arising color fields illuminate spaces between them. Colors as life, appear and disappear, continuously transforming from within. Karpowicz has been contemplating for the last few years, the idea of White. Drawing from her observation of nature, and her painting practice, she comes to thinking that White is an ideal which does not exist in our perceptible reality. It becomes visible only when tinted and shaded. She sees colors as shadows of White, illuminating matter. Materials: powdered pigment and oil on linen, on wood stretcher. framing is optional.
