Acrylic, pastel, collage & spray paint on canvas

Te Ore Ore is the name of a place in New Zealand. The source image for this artwork was a vintage postcard from the early 1900s featuring a young maori child wearing a feather cloak. Behind the child's head are fern fronds typical of the flora and fauna found in New Zealand and the ubiquitous shapes inform the stylized 'koru' shapes we see in Maori carvings and tattoos. Compressed pigment pastels and spray paint have been used to enhance the acid green tones. Photo collage of sea slugs has been added to signify the importance of the oceans and the sustaining life force of seafood for indigenous peoples of the South Pacific
