Non-recyclable trash and repurposed materials on canvas

I created this unique and meaningful piece of artwork featuring Michele Rayner, the first out LGBTQ+ member of the Florida state legislature. Using non-recyclable trash adds an exciting and eco-friendly aspect to the creation. This portrait carries a powerful message about sustainability, creativity, and the subject matter itself. As a member of the Florida legislature, Ms. Rayner is responsible for focusing on environmental issues and the need for recycling and responsible waste management. To create this work, I modified a photograph of Rayner to use as a model. Then, I pieced and glued pieces of trash to the canvas. The colors are in the garbage; I don't use additional colorants. In the final step, I coated the artwork with thinned PVA.
