This is a series of small paintings of New York, the city where I live and work. I love New York, and I am interested in its everyday life and its history, people, architecture, places and events, problems, and joys. I want to show the city how I see it, and it is always different: touristy and noisy, expensive and fashionable, eccentric, extravagant, ambitious, sometimes sloppy and tired, but mostly sunny and friendly, free, white, black, colorful … Urban life is the quintessence of modern society. Everything is mixed here in one pot: economics, and politics, migration, new construction, gender relations, globalization, and individual lives. All this reflects on our daily experience. I painted this series before coronavirus pandemic, so this is the city that doesn't know about quarantine yet.
