Karin Waskiewicz was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA from Kent State University and her MFA from University of Iowa. She has shown with Victori + MO New York, NY, Darci Gallery New York NY, Levitt Gallery Iowa City IA and Margaret Thatcher Projects New York NY. She received a residency with the NARS Foundation in Brooklyn NY and her work has been included in collections and exhibitions across the country.She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Her paintings are made of multiple layers of acrylic paint, before she carves back into the built-up surface with woodcarving tools. This process of sedimentation and erasure, covering and uncovering, transforms the layers of paint into three-dimensional woven textures. She intuitively carves and chips away the surface, revealing layers and hidden images underneath.
